How it works
Hollywood Run™ is a movie box office game[1]. Competitors use knowledge and skill to pick which movies will generate the highest gross box office revenue each weekend, Friday through Sunday.
The game is broken into 52 weekly competitions per contest year
Each week, competitors choose three movies that will generate the top box office gross revenue for that weekend and rank each one chosen as the highest, second highest and third highest.
Each week, competitors will be able to choose from existing revenue producing movies as well as new releases.
Stars are awarded based on the correct selection of the top three movies. Two stars are awarded to a competitor who correctly chooses a correct movie position among the top three. Five stars are awarded to a competitor who correctly chooses the highest and second highest grossing movies. Ten stars are awarded to a competitor who correctly chooses the highest, second highest and third highest grossing movies.
Competitors accumulate stars each week which are added to that competitor’s previous total of stars.
Competitors can earn up to three additional stars each day. One additional star is awarded for watching the daily movie trailer, another star is awarded for referring the game to another person and another star is awarded for correctly answering the daily trivia question.
The box office revenue totals used are the weekend earnings as reported by Box Office Mojo or by Comscore[2]. Any movie opening on Friday but offering “sneak peek” or “previews” on Thursday will have that revenue included in the total. If a movie opens on a Wednesday, the Wednesday and Thursday revenue is NOT included in the total.
The deadline for making the selections is Thursday at 11:59pm Pacific Standard Time. The game will send each competitor a reminder as the deadline approaches. Competitors may change their movie selections as often as they would like prior to the deadline.
Each competitor will be awarded an instant win prize once an initial 25 stars have been earned, and for every 25 stars earned thereafter. The prize will be presented in the form of a digital scratch off card which may include the possibility of winning a free popcorn, winning a free movie ticket or entry into the Academy Awards® Red Carpet Sweepstakes. See Prize Information for details regarding Academy Awards® Red Carpet Experience Sweepstakes[3].
There will be monthly contests at the completion of which a cash prize will be awarded to the competitor(s) who earned the most stars that month. In the case of ties, the prize money will be split between the winners. Competitors will be notified in advance of the beginning and end date for these contests. See Prize Information for details regarding monthly contests.
A cash prize will be awarded seasonally (approximately 4 times per year) to the competitor(s) who correctly selects the top three movies most often during the contest season. In the case of ties, the prize money will be split between the winners. Competitors will be notified in advance of the beginning and end date for these contests. See Prize Information for details regarding seasonal contest.
A cash prize will be awarded to the competitor who accumulates the longest streak of consecutive weeks with the correct top three movies chosen during each competition year contest. In the case of ties, the prize money will be split between the winners. See Prize Information for details regarding competition year contest.
Each competitor’s cumulative stars will be reset to zero at the beginning of any new contest year. Correspondingly, each competitor’s opportunity to win prizes will also reset and prizes will be won in accordance with the rules detailed above.
There may be additional limited time special contests for competitors to enter. Competitors will be notified in advance of any such special contests and the rules and how to play will be made available at that time. See Prize Information for details regarding special contests.
